Meet Derek Cutter, one of the newest AVID Academy coaches! ⚽️

Derek has been playing soccer since he was 9 years old, starting with Frostburg AYSO and Grantsville. "My childhood backyard quickly turned into a pitch, with our rear deck serving as the goal."Derek, as a middle schooler, transitioned to JCP and was invited to play with Frostburg Soccer Club, one of the first, budding travel clubs in Western Maryland. "[Frostburg Soccer Club] was a very valuable experience for a kid from Western Maryland to see what levels of play were out there."Derek ended his high school career as a 4-year varsity starter, multiple seasons on first team All-Area, 3 time Northern Garrett Offensive Player of the Year awardee, and a previous record holder of Single Season and Career Goals Scored at NGHS. Derek was recruited to play at the collegiate level, but ultimately declined due to life circumstances.Derek continues to play in surrounding area adult leagues! He is experienced in ensuring his own skills translate to the kids he coaches.He began coaching soccer in 2019 on the AYSO level and moving into the JCP level. Since then, Derek has expanded his coaching experience to additional sports."My goal for the Academy players is to build strong, fundamental skills through functional-but-fun game play, and the confidence in the individual players' ability to use them."Derek enjoys many outdoor physical activities including a recent international bicycling trip!
