Coach Thoughts
The Predator bracket was very evenly matched and I’m proud of the Wolfpack boys efforts throughout the weekend. It’s always our hope that every tournament bracket works out that way to push development, and it made for a fun, competitive weekend. I was concerned that we’d be flat on our Friday evening game after four hours of travel and a 7:30 p.m. start time. The boys responded and started the weekend strong, winning both day one and day two games. We were the top seed going into day three. Being consistent is always the biggest team challenge in any tournament, as it’s difficult to stay mentally and physically on point. I thought the boys played well on day three, but we looked like we lost our legs a little. Our first touch, passing, and finishing were off compared to the first two days. In the Finals, Wolfpack played with a lot of heart and battled back from two goals down to tie the game with four minutes remaining. We had some really good scoring opportunities, but we couldn’t find the back of the net. It felt like we had good momentum and could score another goal, or move on to penalty kicks. We ultimately lost in heartbreaking fashion, conceding a goal in the final minute with a direct kick into our box that a Bobcat’s player was able to redirect in for the game winner. All the teams in our bracket were amazing, and congratulations to the Maryland Bobcats Youth Academy Galaxy team for winning the bracket!
