Coach Thoughts
The McLean Premier Cup was a fun weekend that tested our skills, determination, and focus. We were missing our regular goalkeeper and we faced an early setback conceeding a goal in the first five minutes of play. However, I couldn’t be prouder of how all the boys responded throughout the rest of the tournament. Harrison Reid stepped up to the challenge, showcasing some incredible saves and growing in confidence as the tournament went on. He showed his athleticism and played a crucial role in our team’s success over the weekend.
We showed patience and control for a significant part of the tournament, but in the momentum swings our struggles stemmed from getting away from our play style. The semi-final game was critical as we needed a win to secure a spot in the finals, knowing that we had a disadvantage in goal differential. Unfortunately, the game ended in a tie, leaving us unable to move forward. Congratulations to Maryland United FC on their victory and earning the bracket championship!
Moving forward, we must capitalize on key offensive moments, maintaining focus on team defense, and capitalizing more on our dead ball opportunities. The Wolfpack boys are a group of determined young men who thrive on challenges, and we eagerly anticipate returning to training and competing at the WVFC Capital Cup in Dunbar, West Virginia on April 6-7th.
