WVU 4v4 Breast Cancer Tournament Recap

WVU 4v4 Breast Cancer Tournament Recap

The WVU Women’s Soccer 4-Versus-4 Breast Cancer Tournament is an annual event that invites three-person teams from the community to team up with a Mountaineer athlete for a fun-filled day at the WVU Soccer facilities in Morgantown. The latest tournament took place on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

This 4v4 event not only provides an exciting experience but also raises awareness about the importance of early breast cancer detection. Over the past 15 years, it has helped WVU Women’s Soccer raise more than $150,000 for the WVU Cancer Institute Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.

AVID has been a proud supporter of this event for many years, and this year, we had seven teams with players participate, including a Pride team that finished as Finalists.

 Coach Thoughts

Rampage certainly didn’t have torrential downpours, century-level flooding, tornado warnings, and attempted trophy theft on our bingo card for the Adidas National Cup in Richmond, but hit BINGO we did! The Adidas National Cup was held at beautiful Glover Park in Richmond. Rampage faced talented sides from across Virginia and as far away as Chicago, Illinois to ultimately be crowned Champions of the U10 Copa Division.

As champions of the Adidas National Cup, Rampage have earned a berth in the Target USA Cup held in Minnesota in July 2025.

I need to really praise our defense for this weekend’s exceptional play. Despite rain and high winds, our defenders locked down play and allowed very few attacks to culminate in shots on goal. Ball movement proved to be the key to our offense, creating great scoring opportunities through persistence breaking the lines.

We’d like to thank the host club of the Adidas National Cup; putting on an event that size with as many weather issues as presented is no easy task, yet ultimately we made it through the weekend.

East Coast Super Cup Recap

East Coast Super Cup Nov 23-24, 2024 Ocean City, MD

While it may have been a bit too chilly for a day at the beach, the weather was perfect for an action-packed weekend on the soccer field. The Talons, Rampage, and Avengers boys traveled to Ocean City, Maryland, for a highly competitive weekend, with the Talons finishing as finalists. This event also marked the Avengers’ very first competition, and reports indicate that both they and the Rampage played with impressive skill and determination.

The Talons had an incredible showing at the 2024 ECSC. Finishing group play in first place with a goal differential of +10. The championship was everything you’d expect it to be! It was a thriller! A nail bitter, and worth the price of admission! We played a very talented Joga FC 2014 team. They were fast, and composed and their keeper was huge! Joga scored the lone goal of the match with less than 5 minutes left. However the Talons kept their heads high and fought until the end. Our keeper, Weston Divelbiss was outstanding! Making tough saves that only the elite could make. I’m very proud of the team as a whole. Bright moments from each player! Shout out to the Player Of The Tournament- Liam Hupe. He lead the team in scoring, netting 9 goals in two games!

AVID Rampage returned to East Coast Super Cup for the second year in a row. This time, the team competed in the top bracket against some very quality competition.

While the scoreline alone may not have indicated a successful weekend, the boys played some wonderful soccer, continuing to focus on creating opportunities by breaking lines and finding targets in the box. To top off the weekend, Rampage had the opportunity to avenge their championship loss from last year’s ECSC with a win over last year’s champion. All in all, the boys showed great resilience battling through a tough top bracket weekend. We’ll look forward to returning to ECSC next year for more great competition.

 Coach Thoughts
The first weekend of October, AVID Rampage tackled two battles, on two different stages, in two different states, on two different days. Since the end of last season, our Rampage family has continued to grow and expand, and this weekend proved the perfect opportunity to show that we are dedicated to finding appropriate development opportunities for all of our players. On Saturday, Rampage White played in the West Virginia Development Friendlies in Morgantown, West Virginia. On Sunday, Rampage Gold played two league play games at the Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown, Maryland to close out their regular season play in the SAM Select league. Head Coach Lee Beeman said, “For the better part of a year, our goal as a team has been to continue to expand to a point that we are able to offer appropriate development opportunities to all of our players. By expanding to two tiered rosters, we can create opportunities to build confidence, hone individual skills, and develop well rounded players. Not much changes behind the scenes; we all train together and the rosters are fluid. I’m very excited about the direction our team is headed!” Rampage will continue with this model for the upcoming event winter indoor seasons.

The AVID Blaze girls enjoyed great day in Morgantown at the West Virginia Development Friendlies! The teams gave us tough competition, but the girls gave it their all! The advancement of skill throughout the progression of the day was phenomenal! From the start of the first game to the end of the last, it was like watching another team on the field. The girls stayed positive and had fun!
